Diversity is Good
Posted On 02/17/2010 07:27:36

What an ideal society right?
I like to have diversity when it comes to Cambodian forums online. For instance, I log onto KC to post "dumb" comments on a majority of "dumb" threads.

I log onto Khmerlife to post even "dumber" comments on even "dumber" threads. I haven't logged onto that site for awhile since it seems like Tevbot and KLB are the authors of many of the threads, but I do enjoy reading the blogs members of KL write.

I log onto Khmerwitica to read about the politics of Cambodia. However, as of late, it has gotten too monotonous that you can predict what the next poster will right, so I haven't been active on that site as much. Plus, it's the same old people who participate in the threads.

My favorite social networking site has to be facebook because my actual friends are on there and there is more diversity as it's not just Khmer folks!

How has the abundance of Cambodian social sites affected you? Do you just stick with one?

The ACADEMICS BLOG, RESUSCITATED*
Posted On 09/01/2009 16:38:09

It’s the time of the year again, the commencement of a new school year.  Scanning through the content section of this website, I noticed that our resident PhD candidate has not updated the Academic blog.

Well, let me unofficially conquer the Academic blog.  I want this blog to be so deep, that you guys will wanna moan, “Sttoooppp….ohhhhh, please, stop.” (Please  moan in a inhalationally voice.)

I’ll be in my residual year of school, woot, woot, but who really gives a care about me. Right.

As you all know, 1+1 = 2, and kor koar, koor, kour nour….  Excuse me for my deficient understooding of the Khmai p’saah.

Fellow, it’s really problematical to be as gooder as Majestic, especially since I have the new Backstreet Boys song on repeat in performance on my iTunes.

Yo VIP, let’s kick it:

On this congenial evening, I would like to inform you folks, yes, you Khmer and white folks about the importance of an education.

Let me be duplicitous, education is fantastically important.  Once upon a time, I graduated from undergrad and submitted an application for various positions at the Mayo Clinic.  I kept getting denunciation letters.  I thought, what the heck, I’m a marginal member of the populace, shouldn’t affirmative action work for me? Hehe. Exasperated and unwaged, as a shaggy dog story, I applied for a position in the food services department (rationing repasts in the hospital and sluicing dishes). Needless to articulate, with my degree from a reputable liberal arts college, the HR department at the Mayo Clinic still rejected me. I yearned to give a bell and query if a Masters Degree is a prerequisite for the food services position. So, that’s how I got to where I am. I have one more year of left of school and I hope to go back to my hometown and apply for that very food service position I formerly applied for.  I hope it will pay off.

Skimming over what I just wrote, I realized this blog is nowhere as great as Majestic’s blog. I need to edit. Please give me 5 mins. Ta- dah! I hope this blog is as educational. You may need a dictionary at your side as you read this luminously composed information super highway journal.

Ok, I lied, it took me 15 minutes to come up with baroquely terminology. I lied about this blog not being about myself too.

Have a nice school year to those still in school.

Again, don’t be a hoodwink, stay in school. Word to your mother.

*disclaimer all of the italicized lexis were formerly common vocabulary.

Khmers Get Offended Easily
Posted On 06/30/2009 20:17:34

Yup.

Here goes- now that it is summer break and I aint got lots of reading to do, let me take my time to write about an issue concerning the Khmer community.

As you all know, I want to strive to be like that one Khmer professor from the LBC—the one who comes up with all these theories about the Khmer behavior. Hehe. I won’t be coming up with theories like “Khmers have an illness called thinking too much” nor will I blame gangbanging (the sexual kind) on the Khmer Rouge regime, but I will come up with some reasons we behave the way we do.

Well, have you guys notice how Khmers get offended easily? Yes, us Khmers are worse than a cat jumping into water when it comes to getting offended.  If we could, we would be hissing and clawing, heck, some of us get into hissy-fit mode when someone types something we disagree with.  I ain’t going to lie, but I think I’ve been annoyed with a lot of Khmers, yet I don’t throw temper tantrums. Why do most of us get easily defensive and offended?

I remember when I worked at the Asian Food Store during the summer of my junior year of college.  I literally offended a Cambodian a day. For instance, I look really young, so this lady accused the owner of hiring underage workers.  So I told her, “hey who cares how young I look, at least I’m competent and am able to give you correct change.” The lady was offended and promised the owner to never shop at the store again.  Who cares, I was sick of swiping her EBT card anyway.  Another time this Khmer man asked my co-worker how much the owners paid us.  I told him, that it’s rude of him to ask her that question.  Immediately, he spazzed out and told me that I “don’t know nothing” since I am young.  I told him, “Hey if I didn’t know nothing, then I wouldn’t have one more year left of college.”  He too told the owner that he will never shop at the store again. So "tell me whyyy" we get so offended.

Some reasons of why Khmers get offended easily:

  • Most of us are sleep deprived due to the amount of Thai Lakorn and Korean soaps we watch
  • Dancing the romvong has caused our brains to spin in circles, thus damaging the amygdala and affecting our emotions
  • Most of us are lactose intolerant, so all that vitamin D deficiency = bad!
  • Low self-esteem - God Dammit, no one gives a crap about us besides Angelina
  • Eating all that prohok – we are predisposed to Hypertension
  • Too much XO VSOP whatever the hell Hennessey and ka-ra okay  has fried our brains(thanks nirorth)

Then again, blame it on PTSD.

Cambodians Are the best looking Asians
Posted On 06/21/2009 20:37:13

 Will expound on this further.

Time for shut eye.

______

Wow, I get more responses typing 2 sentences than all of my previous blogs combined.

And yes, I just realized that Cambodians are very attractive compared to the Other Asians or Asee out there. As I am eating my watermelon and looking like those black kids from the cartoons of Jim Crow era, let me put a disclaimer. This piece is not meant to be scholarly (well, duh) hehe.  So let me start. Oh I am not like others on here to make an effort to sound all smart with their proper sentence structure etc (heck, I know I'm smart)!! So let me begin (music in the background- Mariah Carey's - Obsessed).  The mood is set - shades down, finished the watermelon, and the soothing voice of Mariah in the background.

So, oh, oh, oh, anyway I was at the Asian Store one day when I noticed the Vietnamese girl in front of me. Thin, light skinned, but wait--I looked at her face-huge gums. Ick. I'm not the type to care about looks (others who have met me can attest to this) hehe. But I felt the need to blog about this.

So what makes Cambodians the Best Looking Asians (Asians meaning SE and East Asians--South Asians don't count - we can debate about this later)?

For one, unlike the other Asians, we come in an assortment of colors. You have the pasty white Khmers who are afraid to go out in the sun (ie. Icy) then we have some who can pass as black.  Unlike the other Asians, most Cambodians, besides the older ones, do not have to go back to Cambodia and get surgery to get double lidded eyes. Our eyes are naturally pretty.  Many of my white friends have told me I have pretty eyes.  Khmers actually have lips too! Some of us have too big of lips (ie Swa).

The Khmer guys also have aren't sickly thin and femmie looking like most east asian guys.  I haven't met many Khmer guys who dress in skinny jeans if they do, they are usually the ones getting their sphincter dug into by some other guy.I mean why else would Ksaron post numerous shirtless pics in the KW gallery? Why else would white folks like Coleslaw, Creel and Blob sign onto KW daily???

Khmer females tend to be curvier and not straight, flat, and narrow like the other Asians.

Khmers don't try too hard like the Koreans and Japanese who feel the need to look more western than the average westerner.  Unlike the east Asians, most of us aren't chinky eyed, we have cheek bones and other features that are lacking in East Asians.

Khmers have better teeth.  Have you met a khmer person with teeth that braces can't help?

The thing I like about the Khmer look is the fact that we don't have a homogeneous look like the other Asees.

again, we can be PC like the others and say beauty is found in the soul etc, yes, that works, but I am talking about physical looks.

some exhibits to prove my point. lol. photos from flickr thanks to cc licenses. all I did was put a search for each ethnicity. Remember- these are just ordinary people. As a whole Cambodians are the best looking. whoo hoo! SO!!!

you get my point. I would post pics of fellow Kwers but don't feel like asking them for permission.

My "New" Bike
Posted On 03/21/2009 14:21:06

Right now I have two bikes- a girl's Schwinn (purple frame with white tires) and a Fuji Mountain bike that a friend gave to me (it's from 1992). On Monday I went to the Salvation Army Thrift Store with my fodder just to browse around. A few items I keep an eye out on when I go to thrift stores are old globes, toys, and bikes.  On Monday I spotted this non-traditional bike, a Dahon folding bike.  The tag listed 50.00, so I figured why not buy it? My dad talked me out of it because I already have bikes.  We left empty handed.  As soon as I got home I Googled the Dahon bikes and realized that a new model costs from 450-700 plus dollars.  I figured the model at the SATS was probably an older model from the 80's. Determined we went back the following day.  I was annoyed when I didn't see the bike there, so I literally grrrred at my fodder. Still determined, I walked around the building and spotted the bike near the cash register. I bought it. My fodder did some light maintenance on it and voila! here is my "new" bike:

it folds, hence the name:
