Hmmm... KhmerLeur is being silly and must not have read the post by Majesticgyrl. Here's a little reminder (see quote below) where I got the "poke" feature information from. Now, who's lying again?

One thing I hate about facebook is that poke thing. I always get like about 8-10 pokes a day from my friends and it's like, okay, am I suppose to poke them back each time or what? I don't always have time to send them a poke back. Or, is it considered rude if you don't poke your friends, if they send you a poke? Haha. I try to send them a poke back when I can because I figured it's a facebook etiquette you know? Kinda like if they write on your wallie, it's only polite to write them back on their wallie, right? But sometimes, I admit that I get freakin' lazy. It gets annoying to get pokes everyday. I wish I can take that poke feature off from my facebook page. Huy.

Uh... It was merely a test and you passed! Okay, I did read that part but it quickly slipped my mind... haha
Anyway, I have facebook, most of the people are friends from high school and people I know in general. I only have 190 friends. Used to have over 200 but I deleted some people.

This is the first time I heard of Facebook so that's something news to me. However, I don't have any plan of using it since I can barely have enough time with some other one I used now. But thank for sharing and the info, Vanna! One interesting thought about Facebook with the feature of "poke" a buddy. I surely wouldn't want to poke anyone since it might hurt, but instead of poking, can I tickle Vanna instead. Lol... J/K!

You're welcome, Sam. Yeah, don't join facebook. It's highly addictive. JK. For me, I have no choice. I'm on facebook for several reasons. For the most part, it's for both academic/educational reasons and, of course, to stay connected with all my friends (and cousins. yes, I have cousins on there too). For me, facebook is one way to keep in touch with all my friends from high school, college, grad school, some who are far away and/or are living abroad. I also use facebook to post up class notes for my students that I T.A. The benefits are that it's free and it's great for planning events and stuff. For example, when I plan events with my friends, it's so much easier and it saves me time just to post the event up on facebook vs. calling each friend one by one or sending a mass email. With facebook, I can just send out a mass invitation to all my friends (and I know they'll check it asap) and then have them RSVP me back if they're going to attend or not. So that saves a lot of time on my part. My friends and I, we all have busy lives, and so sometimes we might not always have time to talk to each other on the phone nor catch up with one another via AIM, Google or email. But at least through facebook, I know how they're each doing, what's going on in their lives (who's now married, who's now engaged, who now has a baby) and where they're currently living, what they're currently doing, where they're currently working at, etc. In turn, that makes me feel at eased because I am reassured and I feel happy knowing that they're all alive, doing well, accomplishing big things and doing great things with their lives just by clicking on their profiles and reading their status updates along with viewing their current pics. So it's a great way to stay in touch and best of all, it's free.

Interesting! Facebook must be pretty big like Myspace, hey? The only sites I go to are, AZBassZone (fishing related), Pka1thjong and Khmerconnection (Khmer related), GMinsidenews and Tundrasolutions (cars related). I also have Hi5 per a friend, Sreymeas, invitation to sign up, but hardly ever go there, but maybe 10 times in a year.

Visit : www.facebook.com No probs. You're welcome! Oh, you can click on the above link to read more about it, if you want. Basically, facebook is a social utility network that connects you with your family, friends, classmates, co-workers, etc. etc. It's free and very simple to sign up for. You just need an email address. You can join as many networks as you want, but for regional networks, you're only allowed to join one at a time. Anyone can join any regional network they want. It's free and unrestricted. For school networks, they're very strict about it and you will need a valid school email address from your school or an alum address if you've already graduated from your college and/or grad school in order for you to join your school's network (s). The reason why you have to use a valid school email address to join a school network is because they want to confirm that you really are a student there (and this is done through validating your school email address) with the school that you claim, and so you will be required to use and put your real full name when signing up for facebook. Lastly, if you work for a certain company or place, you can join your workplace's network too, but you will need a valid work email address from your workplace/company in order to prove and confirm that you really do work for that particular company. Okay, I think that's it.

Actually, some of my professors are on facebook along with 99.9% of my fellow doctoral classmates and not to mention, all my friends at school are on facebook too (so it's kinda hard not to join when everyone you know and go to school with are on there, ya know?), and you wonder where we find time for such things right? Well, there are 24 hours in a day and if we have time to eat, sleep, sing, study, dance and poop, we can def spare 5 minutes a day for facebook. At least, that's how much time on avg I spend there (give or take). I usually only sign on whenever I get a message from my email telling me that a friend sent me something, wrote on my wallie, poke me, invited me to some event, etc. Oh and I also go on frequently to post up class notes for my students and of course, to update my profile with new pictures so that my friends and relatives who are far away can know how I'm doing, what I'm up to, and lastly, what I look like now. That's pretty much it.

i dislike facebook. i feel violated being on there, it's too personal. people care too much and take it too seriously. i only have an account b/c most of my college friends either moved out of state/country or are more active on there than myspace (not that i'm active on myspace either). i put very little private info up on both sites and only use it to keep in contact. btw i hate all the stupid features on facebook. wtf is "poking" all about. or sending "gifts," "money," "khmer food," "green patch," or whatever other silly things. unless you send me some real gifts, real money or real khmer food, that's all useless crap to me. i refuse to display myself online or waste my life online.

Oh I didn't mean to ask you for justifications. It was purely a compliment. The fact that we all know you're one busy person with your Acedemics involvement and to be able to maintain close relationship with friends and relatives...that is awesome! Let me give you a real life example, I know of one person who vanished from the face of the earth when she started her academic year. She would turn down every time a bunch of us friends arranged a get together. The worst part of all she did not even attend one of our friends' dad funeral. So at the end she lost all of her friends. She had her many chances and eveyone basically gave up on her friendship. I think I'm the only friend she has left.

haha yeah. within the past year my beloved friends have moved to srok khmer, boston, hawaii, philippines, illinois, roommate also upped and moved to AZ and they are only active on facebook. so this is my way to stay up to date with them. sure facebook has its uses. those features i don't make use of but its an annoyance when you get sent something. wtf am i supposed to do with it? i just recently made a profile this past month actually so i'm still trying to nagivate the site. oh and those notifications.. so and so wrote on so and so's wall, so and so are now friends.... its like you can't make a move without your friends knowing about it. and you may be able to turn those features off but doesnt mean your friends turned it off. its just too much info. i gotta admit, i roll my eyes everytime i hear someone ask "do you have a facebook?" why can't you just take down my email address and/or phone #?

Are you hooked on facebook and how many friends do you have on facebook? For me, yes, I admit that I am very hooked and addicted to that site. Haha. My friends and I, we all stalk each other everyday on facebook, despite the fact that we see each other at school already. It's all Mark Zuckerberg's fault for inventing that thing. Everyone is super nosey and curious about everyone else's life (myself included). I guess it's only human nature. LOL. Anyway, I only add people that I know in real life and that I go/went to school with. Currently, I have only 310 friends. And of the 310, 38% are from my undergrad school (people I went college with, from my college network), 42% are from my graduate school (people that I currently go to grad school with or who went to grad school with me, all from my grad school network), the other 13% are friends of mine from grade school on up who attend different schools from me (but, whom I've all known since my childhood + high school days), and lastly, about 7% are my students that I T.A. That's about it. I'm in three networks (two of them are my school networks) on facebook : UCSD, Harvard, and Boston, MA. One thing I hate about facebook is that poke thing. I always get like about 8-10 pokes a day from my friends and it's like, okay, am I suppose to poke them back each time or what? I don't always have time to send them a poke back.
