The World Bank has agreed to loan the government of Cambodia a total of 30 million US dollars to fund the second phase of the Health Sector Support Program. The program aims to improve the preventive health services and the health care in general of the Cambodians, especially the poor, women and children. Its goal is also to improve the training of the country’s health workers and develop the service rendered in the health centers across the nation. Lightning struck three Cambodian football players while they were playing during a thunderstorm. They were killed instantly. The victims were playing in a tournament organized by the government to introduce and educate the youth about the sport. This is stated by Cambodia Soccer Federation chief Sao Sokha. The incident took place in the nation’s capital and officials have warned players not to play in the field while there are thunderclouds above. Sokha said that the federation encourages the youth to participate in the sport but reminds them to stay out of the field during bad weather. As of press time, there are roughly about 40 deaths due to being struck by lightning this year alone. It has already tied with the number of deaths for the year 2007.
