Hanoi - Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged Thailand to strengthen military cooperation for the benefit of both countries, state media reported Thursday. The armies of the two countries should continue joint sea patrols, information exchanges, training for officers, and cooperation in crime prevention and control, said Dung while receiving Thai Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon Wednesday. Viet Nam News on Thursday quoted Dung as saying he was pleased to see the continuous development of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in many fields such as economy, trade, investment, culture, education and training, security and defence. Cooperation between the armies of Vietnam and Thailand, especially their joint sea patrols, has contributed to boosting mutual ties and benefits, Dung said. He also stressed that Vietnam was willing to soon welcome the Thai prime minister to visit Vietnam. Before that, Vietnamese Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh had held talks with his Thai counterpart, Prawit Wongsuwon. The two ministers discussed the security situation in the region, relations between Vietnam and Thailand, and agreed on more joint sea patrols. Vietnam is strengthening military cooperation with many countries in the region and the world like the Philippines, India, Japan and the United States. A Vietnamese defence official who declined to be named said Thanh would visit the Pentagon in Washington in the third quarter this year.

What does this mean, while Cambodia and Thailand are engaging in a lock horn battle over Preah Vhear, Vietnam is making move to engage military cooperation with Thailand?

Is Vietnam ditching Hun Sen or doing diplomacy on behalf of Hun Sen and Cambodia? Or simply the big and strongs are making move to secure and strenghten their leverage in the region, while we are running around suing each other for US$.25?

The Thai army is trained to do one good job "Coup D'etat" ...

hemsoo,

I am not sure if the Viet are still exited to die for Cambodia, even if a promise of another island, or part of Takeo or Svay Rieng, or all of Cambodia. I think the new generation of politicians(home made) are emerging in Vietnam.

Have we got any?

Yes, I saw it when they were at it with Lao, and recently with Khmer. They were/are pathetic. But when real push come to shove, American and the British will intervence and side with the tai, b/c of their historical relationship. And the tai prostitutes(gay, lesbian and straight) are much better in serving their clients than that of Khmer.

Our leaders should have not trusted these two neighbors at all. Hope Hun Sen is alerted by this news.

pheak,

It is the purpose of this thread, to perhaps entice some of the best and brightest Khmer intellectucals to engage, so we can explore and then maybe understand what are these neighbors up to. If we sometimes can do that, rather than criticizing each other, calling one another ah kvak, ah kvin, ah lo'ngong, ah klav, ah kmao, ah sor, ah banana etc... destructively, among ourselves to the death of this nation, may be(only may be), one day we can rebuild this nation, from one person at a time.

Hopefully.
