In 1979 when the vietnamese invaded cambodia, we were just freed from the khmer rouge grib.  I was around the age of six, I recalled walking on  street #1 along stoeung sangkaeh and as look to the other side of the river I can see a temple that was blown up but a statue of the Buddha remain intact without a scratch.  Even the coconut trees surrounding the temple was sliced off and dismembered.  Later, we learned that the khmer rouge use the temple as a ammunition storage and the vietnamese had bombed it.  This image of the Buddha has haunted me ever since.  I need to go to that temple and become a monk there... does anyone know the name of this temple? my memory is vague but the image is very vivid. This is no joke peeps, if you're over 35 and from battambang, you must know of this temple.  many thanks folks

Where is battambang?

Are you asking because you want to know if the temple is still there or you just want to know the name so you can submit your application?  Why dont you just go there and find out for yourself?  Or page steungsongke, I think he is the river in battambong.

mmm..interesting story reahu, even though the people here are around 35 year of age,I don't think they remember it. Unless those people who live there and never been move out from that province. My advice to you is, try to visit that province and asked some olds people who live there. Also try to recall some area that you been their, may be it could help you some...good luck..

The best way is to visit that temple when you get the chance.  I just visited the Wat a few months where my father was based during the civil war, 70-75.   I did not stopped on my first and second visits but I finally did this last one.It gave me the eerie feeling and sense that I no longer belong here.  I visited that base many times when I was little.

I remember the tiles from the preahear were strewn alll over the place.  There were so many trees in the surrounding villages.  Now it is all cleared you can see miles and miles from the highway.  The actual base is now rice field.  The preahear is now completely rebuilt.

Anyway I got it out of my system and I no longer want to see that place.

I'm from Battambang and I'm a few years shy of from 35.  I was born in 1975.

Many thanks, but I found the answer at Khmerfuture.com... the name of the temple is "Wat Pau"....

you see I was raised and educated in the US since 79. But a part of me is missing and the image of the Buddha is haunting ever since. I guess home is where the heart is... and mine is in Cambodia. I went to see a Khmer fortune teller and he said that the Buddha is calling me and there I will find my peace, enlightment and hopefully the meaning of my life.
