Awww...I love Newport. Wish I could be there too.
My mom's fave beach shares the same name as her. Navy Beach is known as the 3rd beach to locals (it's in middletown/newport border) and is a grreat place to windsurf...You can also check out the private beaches for a fee on Ocean Ave (with the exception of Bailey's)
You gotta visit Cliffwalk, it's got a spectacular view of the Atlantic ocean too. Oh and the mansions, The Breakers and Marblehead are magnificent sights. Those places were used to film the Great Gatsby.
You want fancy and refine dining than The Mooring is purrrfect but I perefer the hole in the wall Scales and Shells. This is your fishman type restaurant not the place to find modicum of elegance but if you want fresh delicious seafood, it's a must!!! Oh no credit cards accepted. lol I had to learn that the hard way. R.I Quahog company has the BEST quahogs or so am told. I go to Flo's Clam shack in Portsmouth for cheaper but fresh seafood. Black Pearl is also a fave, expect to see some noteworthy people there but I'd go for the food and ambience. They got everything from lobsters to burgers!!!
Dessert: Cold Fusion Gelato...totally authentic Italian ice made by an Italian lol
Oh and get some Del's home made lemonade slushie!!!
too bad you can't wait till July to come here for the Sumo Wrestling at the Black Ship's festival...
