Awww...I love Newport. Wish I could be there too.

My mom's fave beach shares the same name as her. Navy Beach is known as the 3rd beach to locals (it's in middletown/newport border) and is a grreat place to windsurf...You can also check out the private beaches for a fee on Ocean Ave (with the exception of Bailey's)

You gotta visit Cliffwalk, it's got a spectacular view of the Atlantic ocean too. Oh and the mansions, The Breakers and Marblehead are magnificent sights. Those places were used to film the Great Gatsby.

You want fancy and refine dining than The Mooring is purrrfect but I perefer the hole in the wall Scales and Shells. This is your fishman type restaurant not the place to find modicum of elegance but if you want fresh delicious seafood, it's a must!!! Oh no credit cards accepted. lol I had to learn that the hard way. R.I Quahog company has the BEST quahogs or so am told. I go to Flo's Clam shack in Portsmouth for cheaper but fresh seafood. Black Pearl is also a fave, expect to see some noteworthy people there but I'd go for the food and ambience. They got everything from lobsters to burgers!!!

Dessert: Cold Fusion Gelato...totally authentic Italian ice made by an Italian lol

Oh and get some Del's home made lemonade slushie!!!

too bad you can't wait till July to come here for the Sumo Wrestling at the Black Ship's festival...

sorry willis.  i've given up on the atlantic.  above virginia at least.  it's freezing.  the beaches are rocky and/or filled with shrapnels of dead shellfish (smells like it too).  the waves are violent. or otherwise non-existant.  there's no median.

and don't try to convince me otherwise.

i've tried everything from the maine coastline, to cape cod/p-town to montauk to the jersey shores.  all have nice towns to visit, but the beaches totally suck.

remember, i was just in nantucket?  a shell cut my foot... just cuz i wanted that 1 minute of sand between my toes.

Stop being a pussy cat. Come as you please and you wished you did come. haha I love the big waves. Have you ever tried New Haven's beaches? there were the big waves I;ve seen in my life. I do have to agree with you that the Eastcoast beaches are nothing compared to the WestCoast beaches.

I must be lucky with the beaches around here because I've never cut myself on rocks or shells. I did have that unusual encounter with a portugese man of war though...

We do need some luck in life. it's that small percentage that makes all the difference.

I took the opportunity going to Lowell, Ma for a wedding and turned into a beachie weekend. I finally got a chance to go Newport Beach, RI it was more beautiful than I've expected. With its Mansions, and Seafood "Barking Crab house" outlets it was a great weekend. Too bad I ran over my budget and couldn't stay any longer.
