A tribute to the King of music (Fundraiser) |

This is stemming from an idea that Sarin have brought up about paying respect to the King of Khmer music, Sin Sisamouth. It is a great tragedy for someone to be heard all over the world but few know very little about who he is. When he was murdered by the KR, his life was not the only thing that was robbed but his songs were too. People are making money of his music but his family live in poverty. This is a tragedy in itself. It has been a long time since a Fundraiser has come to mind but since I love his music and his gift to all of us I’m going to help do something for his family. I am thinking of having a Fundraiser party for the Sin Sisamouth family on April 12, 2008 at the Golden Villa. All proceed will go to the SS family and I will personally deliver the money raised on your behalf. What do you think? Can it be done? Can we show our respect to the greatest musician to ever lived? Let me hear your thought.

It's sad to know there is absolutely no royalties awarded to his family after his death, while his voice continues to sail across the world. I don't think hosting a fund raiser at Golden Villa will accommodate the guests as the place is not that big in size.

What are your suggestions? I'm all ears and I know very little about LB.

I support the idea of a fund raiser for Sin Sisamouth's family. I would like to add another idea that is to sell Sin Sisamouth CDs at the event with the net profit going his family. As wonderful as people are, a high ticket price can scare them away. A modestly price entrance fee will draw a larger crowd. More money can be made through the sales of merchandise.
In my opinion, this fund raiser can potentially eclipse all other parties in the Long Beach area during the New Year. Make it a formal event with wonderful food and nonstop music all nite long as well as some entertaining games. Plan it now, make the cash deposits, make flyers, spread the word, sell tickets. We have a wealth of talent on PKa1thong. Its just a matter of asking the right people to do the right thing.

Maybe not around or on Khmer new year's since there will be plenty of other parties that will draw the crowd away due to competition. Throwing it at a hall is a great idea. Apparently I don't know or have any idea where you can rent one from. You can also sell his CDs at the event and add that into the donations for his family. That's all the idea I have.

it will have to be the 12 or the 13 for me to participate. I like the selling of cd idea. Music special singers/guests to sing would be awesome. Does anyone have connection with Chom Nimol or other khmer stars that they could talk to? I will try to see if Nimol is interested because she is coming to Portland on the 5th of April.
I only recommend Golden Villa because I have connection.

Basically, my cousins will be there that weekend and they are from the Bayon band and they will help out greatly because they know about music. Does anyone know how big is the golden villa?

Maybe early summer would be a better idea. No competition, more time to promote. This can be a huge event that people come from near and far to attend.

what is the golden villa and where is it located? When picking location, think outside the box. No khmer restaurants, no backyard, no parks. A marina, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm are good places.

I think if we do it right there will be a great turn out. Summer is not good because of my travel plan. New Year is the best time because there will be a lot to go around especially if we advertise during the park.
