Mekong Bistro
Hello everyone. Happy New Year. I hope you all have a fun and safe new year. As for me, I am blessed to start a new chapter in business. My first venture lasted 18 months due to Keybank. Keybank kicked me out from the building that I was in so I am now opening a new restaurant called Mekong Bistro.

Mekong Bistro - Cambodian cuisine and lounge is the only Cambodian restaurant in the State of Oregon.

Should I or shouldn't I brand it as Cambodian cuisine?

It is wrong or a bad move on my part to brand it as a Cambodian food/restaurant?

What is your takes?

Hi KSaron,
Long time no hear. Belated Happy Khmer New Year to you, too.
I wish you the very best of luck in your new venture.
Is Khmer cuisine quite well-known where you are, viz. your city, your State?
One approach is the one adopted by your cousin whose Sophy's Restaurant in Phnom Penh offers both Khmer and Thai cuisine and says so.
In Long Beach, does Sophy's Restaurant do the same?
btw, do you know how your cousin's restaurant is doing in Phnom Penh.
My impression is that it faces a lot of competition because there are so many restaurants to choose from.

Hi K15. Yes, happy belate KNY.

I understand that Sophy's in Cambodia is not doing too well as you said, too many competition. I hope that her cuisine will be more known.

As for me here in Portland, OR, I am the only Cambodian restaurant in the State of Oregon so we are getting a lot of curious people of what Cambodian cuisine is all about. We do have many patrons that has been to Cambodia and is now got a place to dine whenever they are in the mood for Cambodian food.

I do not want to brand it as Thai-Khmer or Khmer-Thai. I want to brand it as a Cambodian Cuisine but on our menu we do have a few Thai noodle dishes along with Vietnamese, and Laos. Ah-Moke and Cha Kreung are the 2 biggest hits for us. People like our food so far
