Conflicting Due Date
Posted On 08/29/2008 09:36:35 by malaika

The due date that my doctor gave me and when I think I conceived and when the baby is due is conflicting.  The date of my last menstrual was January 7 and because I was keeping track of my discharge to determine ovulation, I think I conceived around January 27 (20 days later). Based on that, I would be in my 40th week in the third week of October and due is around October 22.

However, when I had my first appointment, the doctor dated the baby at 6 weeks and gave me a due date of November 12, which is three weeks different. I’m convinced it’s wrong but they are adamant that based on the ultrasound and measurement, it’s the correct due date. Based on this calculation, it also mean that I conceived 43 days after my last menstrual period which is long considering most women conceived around 14+ days after their last menstrual period.

There's no debate.  The baby will be born Oct. 15.  I can just tell.

A full-term pregnancy is 9.5 month which is 38 weeks.  In pregnancy, 2 extra weeks is added when the doctor is dating the baby, it's called LMP (Last menstrual period) so in that sense, pregnancy is 10 months.  But when you are talking about gestation time (the moment sperm meets egg), it's only 9.5 months.  However, the earliest full-term is at 37 weeks LMP or 35 weeks gestation, which means if you were to have your baby at 8.75 months gestation, the baby is perfectly healthy and functional.

One more thing. The doctor could be off by a couple of weeks. I had my daughter about 2 weeks early. And my friend had her baby about a week late.

Malaika, most women actually carry their babies for 10 months, not 9 months. So if you conceived around January 27th, you should expect your due date to be sometime in November.
