I’m a terrible driver. I think. I have accumulated over $200 worth of parking tickets and traffic violations in the month of July and August. Some of them are paid and others are tucked away in a fluorescent orange folder (to match the color of the tickets) specifically labeled “Bad Driving”. I think I will try to appeal a few of them. I’ve collected these ticket violations and received a few warnings through a series of mishaps like an expired meter, illegal parking, driving in the wrong direction, running red light ect. I have not received a ticket for speeding since I tend to drive with the flow of traffic. As for road rage, I have developed a variety of moves that will ensure a moderately wide berth from fellow drivers. It ranges from subtly painful to outright threats, involving nails, oblivious looks or death glares accompanied by promises of pain. They are all tested and vouched for by yours truly. There was one time I gave the peace sign instead of the birdie to a man that cut me off. I was very angry and clearly wasn’t thinking straight at the time. The man was very confused by my gesture of peace because my facial expression declared war. I was oblivious of my actions until I noticed the bamboozled look on his face. I have refrained from using any kind of hand signals since that incident. My parents have banned me from using their car after I backed their brand new Mercedes into a few trash bins that toppled over like bowling pins. My friends won’t use me as a designated driver when we go out for drinks because I have a tendency to fall asleep behind the wheel. I have skidded off the road before…and yet all of these things have not deterred Geico from presenting me a gold star for their good student driver rewards program. Why? I don’t know but 15% off auto insurance to switch to Geico sounds like a mighty good deal. Perhaps in a state known for bad drivers, I am not nearly as bad as I think I am.
